Frankfort, KY — January 30, 2024Swim With Purpose, a charitable fundraiser founded to raise $1M to support the restoration of the indoor aquatic facility at Kentucky State University’s (KSU) William Exum Center, today announced it has received a large donation from the Commonwealth Credit Union, a trusted financial institution in the Central Kentucky and Louisville metro area that provides members with a full range of quality savings and loan products and services.

Earlier this month, Swim With Purpose announced it had provided a $75K grant to KSU, which allows the necessary funding to officially start the planning, design and construction for the indoor pool.

“The generous donation and ongoing support from Commonwealth Credit Union propels us one step closer to our goal,” explained Sam Taylor, Chairman and Co-Founder of Swim With Purpose. “The impact of this donation is already being felt as it was part of the $75K grant Swim With Purpose recently made to KSU to begin the aquatic renovation.” He added, “The excitement is beginning to be felt by the KSU students, YMCA members, neighboring high school swim teams and the community in general as this dream starts to become a reality.”
“We are proud to donate to the Swim With Purpose fundraiser as we see the real benefits of having an aquatic facility at KSU that all can use,” said Karen Harbin, president and CEO of Commonwealth Credit Union. “We believe in the power of community and know that a fully functioning pool has the potential to create great friendships, friendly competition and health and wellness opportunities year-round.”

Swim with Purpose was founded in 2023 by AV industry executive and avid swimmer/swim coach, Sam Taylor, and is officially endorsed by Olympic gold-medalist and swimming legend Michael Phelps and the Michael Phelps Foundation. The mission of Swim with Purpose is to raise $1M to support the re-establishment of KSU’s indoor pool. Programs will be developed by the University, the community, and the Frankfort YMCA to break generational stigmas and create a safe and teachable atmosphere for children, college students and adults. The fund will also be used for ongoing maintenance and programs that serve the community. To date, nearly 30 percent of the $1M fundraising goal has been met.
